Notes:This little fellow seemed to want to help plant the garden. He/she was quite still while I photographed. This small snake (16 - 43 inches) is live bearing, with 7 - 25 young, each 8-10 inches long, born in June through August. The habitat ranges from mesquite dominated desert flats to pine-fir forests, prefering canyons and mountain streams and desert seeps. They range from sea level to 8750 feet. Active during the day, they may be seen sunning themselves on rocks. The tongue is quite lovely, being deep red with the fork black. This one was in my garage. Looking for a water tap ??
